Holux have brought out a new GPS Receiver. Holux have gone back to the roots to a cabled GPS Mouse, with a subtle difference. It still contains the tried and tested SiRF IIe/LP chipset but it's one of the smallest cabled GPS Mice on the market!

Small is probably not the right word to use, more like tiny at 4.2cm by 3.4cm and 1.4cm deep! It's smaller than most external patch antenna's which are usually pretty small!

The full review is available here.

It must have impressed you as you gave it a 100% score!

Is this actually available for sale in the UK yet? The Holux UK site does not mention it...

cheers,
seg

I emailed them yesterday about it :D

Cost is £99.99 inc VAT it is available now - but they only have the cable to connect to the Ipaq 38xx series at the moment, I've emailed them back to check when it will be available for my 5450. I'll post back when they let me know.

Yep, I have just had confirmation on price so will update the review.

The 3800 cable will fit a 3800, 3900, 5400, 2200 series iPAQ. It's pretty generic across that range. It won't support a 4000 or 1900 series AFAIK.

Dave,

I've just ordered one from total PDA for a lot less than £100 !

Just a query - Brodit tell me that both the 210 and 211 receivers will connect to their PS2 connector on their active mount ( for the iPAQ 3970) although Total PDA were definite about the 210 but less so with the 211.

Is your understanding that the 211 will connect ok ?

Never tried it and don't have an active mount. I would check with Holux TBH. If Brodit say that it works, then I guess they must have tried it at some point.

Hi pezzer

I don't know if this is a bit late but the connector on the one i received earlier has a different plug on it to the one in the review I think,

but as I'm using the Holux GR211 to ipaq cable and a homemade mount I don't have a problem.

Read the review and rushed off to get one (well rushed to my keyboard to order one). Never really gave it a thought that it might not fit with my Seidio Mount using an RJ-11 converter cable that I have used on other units.

Obviously you cannot. Spoke to Holux and they say you cannot use this unit with the Seidio Mount which is a bit useless. What was worse is that they have no current intention of releasing a converter cable!!

I don't wish to be too picky here, but I cannot see the point in releasing a new unit that cannot be used on a popular mount.

Has anyone got it working in a Brodit mount that has the speaker built in?
My PDA is a HP4700.

If I have to go back to loose cables coming out of the cigarette lighter and fiddling around to fit the cable in the bottom of the PDA everytime I want to use it then I am afraid it's going back.

Every single GPS Mouse has different connecetors. The Seidio mount only utilisies an RJ11 cable which is what Leadtek GPS Receivers use, so if you want to use any GPS Antenna with a Seidio mount then you need to purchase a Leadtek but I don't think Seidio tell you this!

Dave,

Thanks for that. I have got that far as well. I suppose the next question has to be does the Leadtek 9532 offer the same in terms of performance as the 211? - I note both have scored 100% in your reviews, but with the Holux being newer, does that necessarily make it better?

Another route would be to go for the GM-210 and get the adapter from Seidio, but my concern is that with any type of adapter - does it impair the performance?

I think the Holux's Manufacturers Website are wrong, Holux is a Taiwanese company. The website has to be http://www.holux.com.tw/ not http://www.holux-uk.com

No it's not wrong, Holux UK are the authorised UK Agents for Holux Taiwan, nothing unusual in that. In fact its a whole lot better than some where you are left to deal direct with Taiwan.
