I'm just waiting for the delivery of my TomTom Rider and I'm going to order the car kit aswell, but I've read that the Rider doesn't have any external speakers. Does this mean I have to wear headphones in the car or is it possible to fit speakers to the system?
Thanks for your help.

Can anyone offer an opinion on the headset?

Thanks for that page info. Is it possible to buy bluetooth speakers which would work in the same way as the headphones or even a bluetooth handsfree phone kit?

I use this kit with my RIDER in the car. I can recommend it. Mind you, I only paid £40 for mine when it was a Lidl special. :D

What sort of an opinion? I use the velcro speaker as opposed to the earbud, as I use earplugs. With careful positioning of the speaker against my ear (it occasionally moved inside the helmet) I can understand the voice nstructions at upto 80mph or so. Mind you, if I didn't kow where I was going I wouldn't be going that fast anyway. Laughing

I can also have a telephone conversation at 30mph, but the audio is much more quiet than the Navigation instructions.

Thanks for that Tim, that's brilliant. I'll see if I can find one for a similar price. Great site this, loads of info and help.

I don't know if you're interested in a second-hand one from eBay, but there's a listing here.

We went to visit friends in London for a couple of days and by the time we got back that item was sold, and for only £9.99. I'll keep a look out for more, but thanks for your help Tim.

You would use the speaker in your helmet instead on the earbuds?
How cumbersome is the speaker?

Yes. I use earplugs as I want to retain my hearing well into my dotage, hence the earbud isn't an option for me.

In my Arai helmet, the speaker isn't cumbersome at all. Once I've got its position just right, I forget that it's there until I get instructions through it.

I am trying to figure out the quality of the stock buds that come with...
Can you offer an opinon on those? Have you ever used them on a short ride, when you might not have used your plugs?

I've never used the earbud whilst riding my bike. I'm not sure how comfortable it would be, as I'd have to have the earbud in place and then put my helmet on.

I did use it for a while in the car before I got the WellTech BT device (and then for a while longer until Darren figured out how to get the WellTech and RIDER talking to each other). I found the audio to be OK and it also handled 'phone calls adequately. I did find, however, that its shape wasn't suitable for my ear and it kept on falling out! Obviously this wouldn't be an issue with a helmet.

I got mine to work by disconnecting the BT from the earphone and trying again with my BT speaker set to Find Me mode and the Rider then found it the next time. Hope this helps.
