I contacted Garmin on the multiple country thing - when you select Where to you get multiple language versions of the same country like:

Belgie
Belgique
Belgium

Cymru
Wales

etc.

Their reply
Quote:
I have heard back from the engineers and they have said the change was intentional.

Sounds bizarre - why would you have 3 languages of spelling Belgium, when you also have language selection...

Anyone else who wants to email him to ask that they change this:

Will be sticking with 2.7 until I hear more positive things about this update. Didn't get a chance to upload the new firmware over the weekend as intended.

SWMBO complains about the peculiarities of the i3 enough as it is, would dread to hear her comments at a frozen screen, she'd probably pluck the unit from the windscreen and pitch it out of the window.

I used the updater. I might re-flash later.

I had 2 lockups during a trip to the south coast today with v2.90 the only way I could bring it back to life was to power down the unit.

Not very happy..... will send garmin an email once I get my i3 serial number.

Think it will be best to rollback to 2.70 in the meantime although I feel Garmin will have to rushout another update.... heres waiting for v3.00 Wink

I have gone back to good old reliable version 2.5!, i still think that was the best all round version released so far for the i3, the unit seems quicker and happier with 2.5 than either 2.6 or 2.7 or now even 2.9 Exclamation

Think i'm gunna stick with 2.5 from now on. Smile

Paul would it be possible for you to make available 2.5 and 2.6 or send this software to my email addy.
Will send a PM with my detail

2 white screens and a very slow i3 today. Funny thing is that the banner at the top of the screen ("Road X Ahead" etc) updates ok but the main screen still shows the position 4 streets ago. The speed and compass still work.....

I have my i3 set to "Most" detail. Anyone else?

Updated to 2.9 over weekend. It was ok yesterday, but today exactly the same as you, white screens, map lockups, but banner ok.

The only difference today was that it was very cloudy, I wondered at first if it was having trouble tracking satellites.

BTW I used the web updater.

Have tried the Web Updater and then rolled back to2.7 and tried a manual update... issues on both. I have been feeding all I have found back to Garmin, please make sure you all do as well so we can get these issues sorted quickly.

No matter whether the firmware is updated by using the web updater or manually, surely upon completion the end result should be the same... once all updates have been applied that is... or am I missing something somewhere?

I have just logged an online support issue with Garmin about this as well.

use the new update today and found it really slow at times and had few lockups, no white screen of doom yet but its just not the same, put in a route had to go round aroundabout twice before it told me which exit yes twice.

I also found after the horrid trips the wass, egnos was turned off which I knows I did`nt turn off as we know its better so maybe thats one reason it got things so wrong and slow updates today with the weather been bad the unknown factor of it all, we see if turning the waas, egnos back on makes a difrence tomorrow, if not its back to 2.70.

I totally baffled. Worked fine this afternoon / evening for a couple of hours. I tried EGNOS and it was going loopy again - carrying on down roads i'd turned off etc, screen suddenly rotates 45 or 90 degrees for a second and then corrects.... Normal seems better with both 2.7 and 2.9.

Getting fed up with this. Surely one firmware should be better than another so why do people experience differences with features such as Normal vs EGNOS?
