No they are not Traffic Master cameras. These are a bank of about six cameras with no road markings. I think they may be number plate recognition cameras to either monitor known "Dodgy" people or perhaps checking if you have valid road tax.

No not SPECS cameras as there is just 1 set, and I think they are painted green to blend in with the bridge. They look similar to CCTV cameras but why a bank of 6 if that's what they are? Next time I'm passing I'll have a better look.

Also there are a raft of cameras just north of J41 northbound on a green bridge, not sure what they are about but I'm sure they will give you a ticket if you are doing anything naughty.
How close to the roadworks is it? Could it be additional traffic monitoring cameras for the roadworks between J40 and J41?

richy,

i recently read on the net the trigger speed for cams is 10% + 2mph, so in a 30 its gonna be 35mph, cany you appeal? or have you already accepted the points?

The net info is inaccurate. 10%+2mph is the ACPO guideline for prosecution, but not all police districts abide by this. There are some areas where prosecutions do take place for infringements as small as 1 mph

You must either
a)keep an accurate and up to date record of the areas where this applies, or
b)always stay within the limit

(b) is easier and more reliable!

If the are hanging over the bridge, I suspect trafficmaster / traffic monitoring.

The green signifies that they are powered from a solar panel nearby.

Well clear of the roadworks. It's the bank of 6 that gets me. If they were observation cameras there would be 1 or 2 max.

This is the unofficial margin that a police traffic officer will normally allow a driver before issuing a ticket, but does not apply to cameras, which can be setup to be activated closer to the actual speed limit. In effect 'zero tolerance'.

The 10% + 2mph is the OFFICIAL ACPO guide - NOT an unofficial limit.

Individual officers are likely to operate a higher limit (but not always).

That said 1mph over the limit is the offence and officers are legally allowed to prosecute below the ACPO limits. It generally is either a reflection of your own attitude (or a particularly tough individual officer) if you get done below the ACPO guidlines.

Just wait until the new law comes in to allow 2 points for certain speeding offences. I can guarantee that you will see a lot more zero tolerance happening then. Evil or Very Mad

And how would you know if you are sticking within the law? Do you drive around watching your speedo obsessively? Do you never exceed the speed limit even accidentally? Have you ever noticed that many speed cameras are located at places where it's easy to inadvertently exceed the speed limit?

Do you even drive a car? Rolling Eyes (BTW, a Nissan Micra doesn't count as a car).

The speedo generally helps to ascertain your speed. Using this in conjunction with the little red circular signs with black numbers in them generally helps you to judge the speed you are going in relation to the law Wink

You don't have to watch your speedo obsessively. If you stay well within the speed limit and are careful you never exceed the limit. Doing 60-65 on the motorway on cruise control I have never "accidentally" exceeded the speed limit.

Even around town you just set the cruise control on at 27mph and you're within the limit. Without cruise control it is just as easy, you just don't have to be tempted to accelerate. It's easy with practise!

Oh and yes I do drive a 2.5 V6 Vectra. Does that count as a car? Wink

Unfortunately my bike doesn't have cruise control. Wink

Yep, nice enough vehicle. 8) Bit of a rep-mobile, but very quiet to drive. I hated the indicators, they never did what I wanted them to do.

Too bad you drive it like a granny then. :P Wink

Doing 60-65 indicated on speedo (more likely 57-62 in real terms) is more likely to get you in trouble with HGV's and Caravans. As for using cruise control in town centres, well you are barmy and down right dangerous.
