hi while perusing ebay I saw a program for 6 digit postcodes for tomtom 2 anyone know of this at all

Are you refering to this?
If so, it looks just like a database of UK postcodes which if the case
1) You could download George Spanellis' codesearch database for free here.
2) Searching through such huge POI files within TTN would take a very long time.

A much better, and free solution is to download Richard Davies' Codesearch for PocketPC and his converted version of George Spanellis' database, which means looking up postcodes is virtually instantaneous.

The database for the whole country takes up about 41 Mb
