I got an iPaq 4700 for Christmas and just got a TTN5 for my birthday - yup, I am one lucky bloke! Wink

Used the TTN for the first time yesterday, but soon found the battery on the iPaq went.

Not got a power lead for the iPaq in the car. This is probably a stupid question, but would the power lead for the TTN5 power the iPaq? Input specs look about the same, and the plug's the same size

Longer term, looking for an in-car mount. Would prefer a permanent fix to a sucker on the screen job. Also I think I've seen mounts that hold (and power) the bluetooth receiver and the iPaq simultaneously?

Any suggestions appreciated!!

Cheers

I don't think plugging the GPS powe lead into the 4700 is a good idea at all, unless it was specifically intended for the device. You are correct about needing a powered mount though, I would also go for an active amplified unit as the speaker and volume level from the 4700 is one of the few things that let down a superb PDA. As you are using decent equipment get a decent mount (you don't want to damage it by it dropping in the car at 70MPH) I would take a look at the range from Brodit, yes there are cheaper ones but the old adage "you get what you pay for" still applies. I would also recommend you back up the unit using Sprite - I think you still get a discount for purchasing this software as this is the grown up version of what is on the IPAQ to start with, this is important as at the moment you run the risk of flattening the battery and the unit might hard reset (loose all the programs and appear as new, I.e. the same as when you took it out of the box for the first time) The BT GPS should give you around 8 hours on a full charge so I wouldn't worry too much about charging that on the move - less cables and clutter etc. hope the above helps - Mike

OK Lutz you win on this one - never like to meddle with connections hence the concern must have been typing at the same time - Mike

Looks like I'd better not trying powering the 4700 with the GPS adaptor then!!

Cheers for the info and advice!

Thanks again!

No worries about editing. I just though once I'd done the re-read that I'd go back and edit the first post rather than post again - never mind!

Sorry to bump this back up, but does anyone have info on car mounts that are either

a) Permanent
b) Clip to vents

I really don't want a sucker job. For one I don't like them, and for another, the rake of my car's screen is going to put the thing well too far away................

Cheers
