Hi All,

As it is among other things christmas bonus time, I have decided that I want to get a BT GPS unit to go with my PDA. Since I have wanted one (6 months now) I have always thought I wanted to get a GlobalSat BT338, as this had great reviews. Now 6 months on, is it still pretty good, or has another unit taken the sirf III crown?
I want to mainly use it in my car, and possibly walking about. Having the ability to change the rechargeable battery after it is knackered sounds good to me!!

also can get it on ebay from a uk buyer for approx £85-90. This a good price??

thanks all

thanks Morris,
unfortunatley I don't think these have the sirfIII chipset, which everyone is raving about.

Your right Nick, it don't have the sirfIII chipset, there again its not a sirfIII price.

I dont think you should overlook this unit just because it isnt sirfIII, it is still a very good unit. On a 60 mile round trip today I was picking up 10 satellites on the outward journey with the unit on the rear parcel shelf. Retrun journey was 5-6 satellite with the unit buried in the glove box.

My advice would be, if you can run to the cost of a sirfIII unit then do so, if you are on a tight budget or just appreciate value for money, then go for the BT77.

Globalsat BT338 all the way.
Great receiver and don't just take my word for it.. look around the forum.
It has a good battery life (and the battery is removable and replaceable).
Comes as standard with a mains charger and car charger plus a protective case.
But more importantly, it is a damned impressive device. Possibly the best I've seen to date... 7 sats in the middle of my office, 9 sats the second I take it outside. Have never lost a fix using this receiver.
