Have you enable proximity warnings on the Nuvi?

If I remember rightly, even with the proximity alert switched on, you are only warned if you have a route planned. If your using the Nuvi just as a map they don't show up. I could be wrong haven't had the alert on for a while.

"you are only warned if you have a route planned."

Not so. I have the Nuvi 300 configured with 211 POI's for speed cameras with a 250 m proximity alert and it works both in "free roaming" mode and also when a route is planned.

My only gripe is that the alert is once only and not very intrusive.

It sounds like the POI's have not been loaded correctly. Can you seem them listed when you select the "Custom POI" section in the GUI on the Nuvi.

1. Switch the unit on
2. Select "Where to?"
3. Select "My Locations"
4. Select "Custom POIs"

You should see first 50 POI's listed. If not then they have not been loaded onto the device.

TTS: I don't know if the 300 does TTS, I think it's only the 350. Anyone know?

(My god adamf, you have some number of sat nav systems!)

The 300 does have TTS. You need to select the (TTS) voice in settings.

Hi Drummer.
Are you sure the Nuvi 300 has Text to speech? I can't find it on mine and thought it was only on the 350.
