Since I am having trouble finding anyone selling the USA maps on CD

hi

there is nothing to stop you copying the sd card to pc then to go700 but if you want to look for maps on cd the tomtom part no is "1C90.086S". this comes as 9 cds with tomtom 5 software.. it says tomtom navigator 5 on the sticker on the box but the printing on the box says go,navigator5 or mobile5.

i have seen part no 1C90.085 (maps of USA) on sale in the usa for 125dollars but i have no idea if it will work on the tomtom go

the only benefit i can see is that you can load either a single state or group of states or whole of the USA with the cds but only the whole of the USA with the sd card

v5 maps are device independent and can be used with any v5 TomTom product.

You're planning on bringing your GO 700 with you when you come to the States? I assume you'll use it in a rental car. When are you coming?

The USA maps on SD card arrived today.
I copied the map files from the SD card to the PC drive, then back to the TTG700 using the USB lead.
There's still 5Mb spare on the TTG700 and after activation, the USA maps work fine.

Uh, that's not very much... try deleting some of the voices you will never use.

A question about map activation:
I've got Europe and USA maps on the TTG and both are activated.
What happens if I delete a map using the built-in menus and then copy it back later from the PC hard drive. Will it TTG know its activated or does it have to be re-activated?

I also have the 700 and I have the Europe + the USA maps on mine Im off to the states next week but when I get back I was thinking about deleting the USA map to save abit of space is there a limit on how may times you can activate a map

I also had a city map on I deleted it with the built in menu however when I checked the hard drive with the pc the map was still on the harddrive

Once you get your activation code from ttcode.com, write it down. You can use it as often as you have to if you ever have to reactivate the map. You will never have to go back to ttcode.com.

As for the deleted map, the TTG leaves the map folder, but it should be empty, or contain just a couple of small files.

It leaves your configuration files, or actually anything that was added later (like POIs).

If you get the USA maps on 1Gb SD card is it possible to isolate the states you need to save space on the drive? I have experience of Navman European software and it was easy to see which country a groupe of files refered to.

Also just to clarify is the Navigator 5 CD set of USA maps part number 1C90.085 compatible with the GO700?Do you need to be on line to activate the maps? And I think it has been said this way you have the USA on 9 CDs so you can load as much as you need.

From INKINO web sales site:do both of these work with GO 700?

TomTom GO Maps of USA
Ref No : TTG009
Manufacturer Code : 1D90.081
Price : £119.95
Shipping : £5.00

TomTom Navigator 5 Software + Maps of USA/Canada
Ref No : TTN5SWUS
Manufacturer Code : 1C90.085
Price : £149.95
Shipping : £5.00

Many thanks

If you get the 1GB SD card version then you cannot split maps out - it';s one large chunk.

If you've got the CDs you can install smaller map pieces.

Any map will work with any device.

I guess the best thing to do is to take both chargers. I'm not sure my PDA would survive a 4 -6 hour drive without charge so the cigarette lighter working is a must!

The issue here is the cigarette lighter "plug-in" that has been removed from nearly all rental cars. The actual socket, for charging phones, nav, radar detectors, laptops, or whatever else you can think of is still there & very much active.

It's a small distinction, but will save you hefting around more chargers than you need. The auto industry trend is actually to provide more sockets, not less... My BMW has always had 2 sockets (front dash & mid-seat console), but I was pleasantly surprised to find the same in the 2006 Toyota I rented last. But FYI, there were no cigarette lighter plugs, just 12V sockets with cover plates over them when not in use.

Hope this helps.

OK, as you can see here, I am new to the site, and also a new owner of a TT300. Pardon my ignorance, but how can one be sure that the maps have been activated (the ones sold on E-bay), and not just copied on the SD before they were sold, as "virgin" maps ? How can I check if they are genuine or "used" ? Thank you.
