I used my new iPAQ 5550 with TT3 for the first time this week. I could not hear the voice instructions over the rain noise.

I have read Darren’s review the Qubit PDA sound System but can find no price information on the web.

Is there any other answer to the low volume of the iPAQ speakers?

Help please

Hi

I'm sure I saw this discussed on another board(or I dreamed it) which involved copying the .wav files to a desktop pc,editing to raise the volume and pasting back to TT3...is this possible?

Unfortunately this is a problem with the ipaq 5450 and 5550 the speaker just doesn't cut the mustard i bought a cheap mobile phone kit for £4.99 and modified it and that works fine there are loads of posts on this site regarding this subject.

Hi,

I found an interesting box (FastMute) which make it possible to connect ANY PDA to your car speakers(stereo).
No special radio required.
The box has a Mute-Generator (VOX) implemented.
In the moment (5ms later) the internal car speakers are switched off and the PDA sound comes amplified (9W Sin) to your car speakers.
There is only one 2 wire connection, from the ear phone jack to that box.
2 sec after the PDA sound has finished the speaker will be switched back (fall back) to your radio.
If you have a DIN loudspeaker connector just remove connectors from your radio and plug this box in between, connect to earphone output and power it, thats all.

Add On implemented for PDA MP3 users.
Autodetect for music. If the box is detecting music the fall back time will now be changed from 2s to now 15s. So no low volume music will cause any jitter in switching.

You can find this box here
http://www.fastmute.de/
The only problem is, that all informations are in German.
If there is some interest, I can translate the main items

No need - there is a 'English' version. Just click the 'Englisch' button on the website Wink

I use the Seidio G2500, the build quality isn't brilliant, but the only real problem I had was sorted fairly quickly with a foc replacement unit.

I bought direct from http://www.seidio-europe.com/

The major advantadge is that the PDA slips in and out with no additional wiring.

The iPAQ 5550 was known to have a very low speaker volume, you can get car kits with speakers to amplify the volume or you can go and edit the wav files. You can also get FM transfmitters that you plug into the audio jack of the PDA and tune your cars radio into the frequency (good idea but there goes your music). You could always wire it up to your cars sound system to cut in to the radio as the voice warnings where played.

The cheapest solution is to buy a set of battery powered pc speakers.
The batteries are lasting for sometimes one year or more.
In some cases you can find a set with external 12V power supply.
Just place one or both under the seat.
With 12V power supply just connect to your cigarette lighter plug.
