Any GPS is compatible in the US & Europe?

I am wondering...a frined of m ine told me that if i buy a GPS in the US it will never work in Europe even if i have the Map for it?



Is this true?



Are there any "universal" units?

No, they're wrong. GPS stands for Global Positioning System. GPS Receivers all talk to the same satellites, some will talk to a few extras for correctional information. Beacuse of this, GPS Receivers work globally, whether you're in USA, Australia, Iraq, Germany or the UK. The only issues you have is the maps. If you purchase software and maps, and you want to use it both in Europe and USA, you'll need to purchase seperate software/maps to enable this. You can still use the GPS without maps, but it will just give you co-ordinates of where you are on the earth.
