I decided to have a go at geocaching the other day and noticed as I walked towards a cache with the distance counting down from 20 feet, 10 feet, 5 feet, 2 feet great!. Then I stop walking and the distance carries on increasing as though I have gone past and eventually stops at about 10 -15 feet away and doesnt correct itself even if I stay standing still. I have also noticed this using my GPS with Tom Tom. If I stop at a junction, the arrow carries on for a little while after. It is almost as if it is predicting where I will be, not telling me where I actually am.
Does anyone know if this is just the way they work and we have to accept it or is there a setting somewhere to turn predictive navigation off?
Thanks, Ian. _________________ TomTom Go 520, HTC Wildfire with CoPilot Live Premium UK & CoPilot Live Standard USA |

I noticed this too on my Garmin Etrex Summit.
When driving along and coming to a stop it plotted a path about 100ft or so dead ahead of me. It was nothing to do with poor reception as there were no obstructions. Almost as if it was predicting my route at that speed.
I wasn't sure what caused it.

I have just had a thought. I bet it is the Power Save option in Setup. With this on I think it only receives once every few seconds rather than continually so I guess it will be filling in the missing bits with a prediction of where you are going to be. I have not had a chance to check this theory out yet though.

Sounds like a good thought. I'll also give it a try.

I tried it last night walking up and down the road. I am sure that is the answer. It reacted pretty much instantly to me stopping and starting walking
