Having decided on the position of my TTG I thought, in an attempt to keep the cable tidy, that I would hard wire it, through a suitable line fuse, into an ignition controld circuit on my car.
I've roughted the cable but when I cut it, near to the lighter plug, I found 3 wires insted of the expected 2 - a red, a black and a white - but a lighter socket only has 2 wires to it.
What is the wiring configuration inside the socket to give 3 wires? Any idea's what to do next?

GOs take 5V, not 12V. I think you've just cut off the DC voltage converter.
You can read all about the third wire here:

I bought a new cigarette lighter and couples it to the existing ones wiring behind the dash, and Fed it behind the pull out lower drawer. Then i only needed to plug in my Tomtom and all the wires are hidden behind the dash and i haven't altered anything on the Tomtom lead.

Thanks for the first two replys - not sure about the point of the third - still, some people never make mistakes do they.

The error has been rectified, the loose ends have been soldered back together and the suggestion in reply no. 2 has been acted upon. All now works perfectly.

Your first question, you get helpful answers.

TomTomThumb was obviously tongue in cheek.
