I have an iPAQ and have just purchased the Emtac GPS unit. I am looking for software that will just display GPS information such a LAT, LONG, Distance and bearing to waypoint etc. Can anyone suggest suitable, affordable software. Will Tom Tom also provide these basic functions when not used with road maps ?

No TomTom software will provide the features you want.

One thought is to buy the relevant region of Fugawi UK for 50 pounds - you can have OS maps for 1600 square kilometres as well as, I believe, all the functions you describe. However, it may be wise to check out the Fugawi forum here first, as there do seem to be problems with the Pocket PC software at the moment.

Another thought - though I've not tried it myself, is to look at the

GPSDash software.

Seamist.

I thenk David meant that TomTom is not suitable, and he is correct.

What exactly are your requirements?

If it is simply those that you have noted then software like OziExplorer CE will be suitable, and will also provide you with some crudeish basemaps for general location. Waypoints can be added and navigated to.

It will also display your location in a number of different datums (grid references).

We have a review on the Site click here for review

We also have reviews of other "off road" topographical packages. If you want to add maps to the display.
