Polstar GPS - broken or is it me (again)

Dear All,

Polstar GPS that worked really well with a mapping application (Automapa - excellent mapping and routing if you are planning to go to Poland, by the way) started to lose it, the application had to be restarted and now it won't talk to my Ipaq 4700 at all. It won't talk to SPV C500 either (legit copy of TomTom - it used to work fine earlier).

I tried (on the PPC) to use the free period of BeelineGPS to test the thing, as this program will search and nicely report on all the serial ports, including BlueTooth. No GPS detected

Resetting the GPS (batteries out, wait, back in) did not help. BT pairs and unpairs OK, but then it is on a separate chip.

Is the GPS (Sony chip) broken? Is there anything else I could check out before I go and get a better unit? I set my mind on RIkaline 6033, as Polstar was losing the lock too frequently even between low buildings.

The deterioration I observed was slow. I suspected the batteries, that was easy to change - no joy.

Any suggestions? Tests I could run?
