I have had my TTG 300 for a few months(about 3) and feel it is unfair of Tomtom to expect me to pay for a new map upgrade I feel that due to the short time I have had my TTG 300 a map upgrade should be free of charge.

My map version is v562

I don't think the upgrade applies to TTG300 owners, as we already have the latest maps. Could be wrong though 8O

The GO 300 already has the latest maps available. There is no chance to buy an upgrade right now. All you can buy are additional countries or maybe city maps in foreign regions. The next map update is probably due in spring 2006. Then it's still enough time to lament that the paid update is so minor that you want your money back.

Maybe I did not understand your problem.

A few minor adjustments in "keep right, then take the exit". Some announcements now are a bit earlier. This does not affect the map version.

The map version depends on the time TT did rip off the "map master" from the internal database. Due to the production schedule it may well be that the Plus maps where extracted later (the GO 500 was scheduled for later delievery) and therefore have a slightly different version number.
It might be completely the other way, when TT first decided to make a set of "Maps of Western Europe" where all detail maps have the same version and compile some regions later on.

The difference would not be noticable to us. Don't get locked on the "number". There is nothing to complain about. I just got my 700, should I insit to have a newer map than you? Maybe I have 100 roads more in your region or 250 new house numbers mapped and I certainly would never know where.

I too would like something like a detailed "difference map" either on the TT homepage or on the TeleAtlas page. So everyone could judge quickly how much was changed in what region since the last update. Maybe TT does not really want us to know. Could be that a lot of people would consider the upgrade as "not worth buying" if they see no big progress in their area, even if this still could mean that there is nothing to correct and everything is perfect there.

I have found differences in the maps between the 300 and 700 both bought at the same time. So I think the map update frequency must be more than once per year.

For Info...

The latest map version is V571 as supplied with the new TTG 500, TTG 700 and the TTG Classic 2005 upgrade (which I bought for £61)

I have no idea what changes have been made in V571 but as the owner of an original Classic (Sept 2004) I know that Tom Tom will not supply a map upgrade for free even if you bought a TTG with old maps a week before the release of an update.

That's Life :-)

I thought that the maps of single countries were v562 and v571. One was the country only (as supplied with 300) and the other was the "Plus" map with the Major Roads of Europe integrated, as supplied with the 500 and with the Classic upgrade.

Don't know about the 700, but it will be a different map than the others 'cos it's linked and bigger and everything - could have the same version number though as a coincidence.

the v5xx number that is referred to here just indicates in what sequence TomTom processed the maps. All maps are from the same TeleAtlas mapdata release. So v562, 566, 568 and 571 are all the same map data.
If you see differences between 300 and 700, those might only be small corrections in the map building process, no extra streets or so.
