Could anyone inform me of the difference between the 'Live' aspect of version 4 and what I am reading here in the forum as a 'Livewire@ add in to 3.5.

I have just ordered Version 4 with a jacket, my first time out into GPS, it arrives tomorrow. Can't wait, but am a little confused.

Well it has arrived, dead easy to set up, just slot in and switch on. I've never used such software before, but after 1/2 hr of 'playing' have managed to get it working like a pro. Too soon to discover any real routing errors, but routing too work takes a different road to routing home!!?? Go figure!! I use both depending upon the railway level crossing.

Live communication between desktop and Pocket PC on screen is easy, although no PIN involved, so it must 'bond' via the activation codes (in which case - glad I've only got one GPS receiver). One major (and so far only) annoyance is that the live traffic update/ reroute feature does not appear on my options. This would by far the most useful feature of the 'Live' feature to me. I have e-mailed UK tech support tonight but we will have to wait and see. It maybe that the feature is not available in the UK yet as this product is so new. But it would be a real shame to have to reinstall all the maps and software manually via active synch, it having been so easy initially. I shall keep you posted!

Well what can I say. Last night a memberof the team sent me a return e-mail at 22:13 explaining, as I thought that traffic update will be created for the UK market in the near future.

Not a bad e-mail support sevice. Off to north Scotland in a couple of weeks from Hampshire so a good test of the ability of this product as there is a complex itinerary.

I'll let you know how it performs.

Duncan and myself met up with the UK team at the weekend, and they are working extremely hard to help users of TravRoute products in the UK.

Hi guys

I've been liaising with Dave a lot of the last few months.

I have CP4Live for a couple of weeks now (lots of hounding to ALK at A2000 got me a very early copy :-))

I thought I'd share a recent email chain with you covering my initial thoughts. My main contact has been with Michael Kornhauser.

Michael has been very responsive and in the main I'm very happy with the product.

I had previously had CoPilot 3.5 with the sleeve. I got rid of it because the GPS performance was signicantly worse than a hand held Magellan 315 GPS I have. I then change for The Quick Start version of 3.5 with no GPS but this still wouldn't work (contrary to initial suggestions) with non CoPilot GPS'.

I have now purchased the s/w only version of CP4. This gives you a CD with all of Europe on and this is completely accessible on the desktop.

You can box the whole of the UK and Ireland with all POIs and the download takes about 78MB. For a little more (9MB or so) it will generate the Quick Start for you which means you can avoid a reinstall following a PDA problem. Can quite happily coexist on SD with other stuff or a microdrive.

Current setup :

     Desktop with ADSL

3970 with 256mg SD, CF + for extra battery and MD

CP4 on the SD with other stuff

     T68i with GPRS

On the PDA you are restricted to the UK and Ireland (although I've not tested the restriction).

As you'll see in the chain ....

there are a few problems and rfe's that would be nice - postcodes don't work like most would like (just give City); there are some routing issues; the Safety Cameras are old and certainly out of date around Croydon (a way to update is apparently on its way); scrolling the map is horribly slow; POI alert min distance is 3 miles - this means if you have lots of speed cameras in a short distance it gets confused and misses quite a few alerts (M25 and A23 are nightmares); road avoid only works whilst GPS is active (not terribly useful for planning routes and waypoints don't really offer a viable alternative).

Many of this is obviously on Michaels mind and he says will probably be addressed in patchs but some may be upgrades .... at cost.

In general though .... 85% .... go buy it .... it's not are pretty as some, but speech is by far the best, Navtech maps are the latest and the best for the UK (from what I here), Live is fun .... traffic will come later (although the manual indicates it is available) .... it will be chargeable .... main driving views are very clear and responsive.

Any comments .... don't hesitate to email me.

Paul, I've been speaking with Michael tonight and as the emails between you and him were private, he's asked me to remove these. Send me an email if you have any objection with this.

I do like your comments above though, the speed cameras is out of date like I emailed you last week, and we will be working with TravRoute to update these in due course for CoPilot Live users.

It really REALLY sticks in my throat that I bought Copilot - the Compaq INS version at great cost, registered it. Blah Blah. And not a cheep via email or anything about new versions.

I did have an email conversation with Travroute in about Jan'03 - and was told I'd be notified about any updates - I'd complained about poor map data around Dunfermline in Scotland.

Any word on an upgrade path? No chance. I'm almost tempted to buy Tomtom product instead ! Grrr.

JDW7,

The upgrade is £99 +VAT available soon from Clove and should appear on their web site soon. I bought mine about 3 months ago. Sucks eh!

Can anybody tell me (as theres no mention anywhere), if vers 4 still support the live traffic info with detour options?

Vers 3.5 supports it and I do use it a lot.

Colin .... I understand this is frustrating. I have been burnt many times before. Much of the liaison with Travroute in the UK was via TeamWarrior. This guys served me well but were not aware of release dates/availability for CP4 Live and their main focus was INS and their live wire extensions to 3.5.

Travroute are now having their own presence in the UK. The personal support I have had from them has been first class. This extends back some 3 months before the product was even released in the UK all the way to helping get hold of one of the first UK copies. The maps ALK use for Europe are the latest Navtech ones and although they may have the odd issue they are recognised as being vastly superior to TeleAtlas which TomTom use. The TomTom product is pretty and has some nice features but it is no where near as polished as CP4. A collegues has been trialing TomTom 2.22.

Hard as it is, you can't expect a software developer to let people know before release about major new versions. They'd lose a fortune on existing stock and really hack off their distributors.

Give CP4 a chance. You won't be sorry. I genuinely don't believe (gimmicks aside) there is a product to touch it.

£99 is not a lot to upgrade from 3.5 which was already better than the pack.

Paul.

Thanks for those words Paul. I've no issues with the product, indeed I have promoted it serveral times on these forums, as the best on the market for serious drivers (IMO).

I think I will wait a while for the reports to come in, as, to be honest, I am perfectly happy with 3.5 It worked well when I bought it and nothing has changed.

I just think that £116 (inc VAT) is rather a lot for an upgrade. If the maps work with 3.5 then should we not get those for free in any case?

Having said that I'm not sure exactly what the upgrade consists of. Does it come on CD or CF Card or both? If it comes on card then it is easier to justify the price.

Also I'm not sure what the 'Live' aspect of it is. As I've said before I really think Travroute under sell this. There were many more features on 3.5 than were advertised.

I did get the chance to use one of Dave's emoticons though Laughing Out Loud.

I will keep an eye on the product - but will wait till some reviews surface before committing to it. I really like Navigator2, and if this is better, I'll more than likely purchase it.

£116 for the upgrade is out of order considering existing users (of 3.5) were really jut beta-testers for quite a buggy application (sound break-up anyone)
