During TechEd Europe 2005 Microsoft announced to be working on its own navigation system for Pocket PCS. The system will rely on services offered by MapPoint Location Server.
At present it is not known yet whether Microsoft will bring the navigation system into the market as a stand-alone product, or if it is to supplement PocketStreets. A conceivable solution could be that Microsoft always keeps the navigation system up-to-date by downloading map data directly from a central MapPoint server. How much the navigation system will cost or whether it will be contained in future Windows mobile versions, is not yet known. A release date for the navigation system hasn't been announced either.
