How about a welcome section where people new to the board could introduce themselves.

Hi Synth,

Usually people introduce themselves in the Guestbook and Feedback section of the forum. This seems to have worked well in the past.

Welcome to the forum - I hope you find it useful! ;-)

Regards,

Bo Peep.

OK then.

My name is Synth, a nickname I picked up many years ago. I am in my mid forties and have worked offshore doing underwater inspection work for the past 20 years. Most of my work involves oil rigs and pipelines but I occasionally do things like cables, shipwrecks and aircraft crashes. My work takes me all over the world.

I was born in the UK and became a New Zealand citizen in 1995. I currently live in Coquitlam, BC, Canada but will be moving to Canberra, Australia at the end of June 2005. At the moment I am on a ship doing construction work in the Atlantic Ocean about 80 miles west of Shetland, UK.

I use GPS units as part of my work, usually Sercel units with Veripos differentials, but I leave that end of the job to the surveyors so no point asking me anything too technical.

I do not own a personal GPS yet, but I will probably be buying a Garmin Quest or Navman 510 in the near future.
