I have a TTG 300 on order from Maplins and am considering buying an AC power adaptor/charger. Does anyone know the spec of charger required eg Volts and amps. I am worried about frying the unit if I get the wrong spec!!!

230v to 12v adaptor available from Maplins for £7.99, it says availability within 28 days on their website, I went into their local store and picked one up off the shelf therefore P&P nil. Try plugging your 300 cigarette lighter adapter into it.

I have just seen on the Tom Tom website FAQ that the international ac adaptor is 5v and not 12v. Can someone with a TTG Classic have a look at their ac adaptor to see if their are any markings stating volts/amps.

The GO will take a 5V DC 2A power supply. In the past I have used my iPAQ power adapters as they have the correct volatge, polarity, and fitting.

I think the Maplin option is a 240V to ciggy lighter adapter. Then all you need to do is just plug the car adapter into that instaed of the car.

That's correct, the GO accepts 5v on it's input, a 12v vehicle poweer adapter reduces the 12v vehicle electrics to the 5v required and a 220-240v mains adapter does the same outputting 5v.

Any standard iPAQ 5v power supply, mains or 12v will work with the GO.

Many thanks,
I will see if I can find a suitable 5v 2A ac adaptor.
Just had an e mail from Maplins to say my TTG300 was despatched today ( ordered 22nd April ) - looks like I'll be busy tommorrow adding POI's.

Hi,

I wired my Go 300 to my car using the cigarette charger that was supplied with the product.

The easiest way is just to tape a +ve wire from the car (which I routed through a switch) to the centre pin on the TomTom c/l, and a -ve wire to one of the outer terminals. If you are concerned that tape is not going to hold the wires in place, you could solder them on.

Saved me a few pounds - which is always a bonus for a scotsman Laughing

The only problem there is if the wires come unstuck and short out Sad

Easiest method is to buy a cigarette lighter extension cable from Halfords, chop off the plug and wire this into the fuse box (add another fuse if necessary). Then plug the GO into this. Less danger and more protection.

My new TTG 300 arrived from Maplins yesterday after waiting for Securicor/Omega to get their act together.
I am very pleased with the 300 and everything is very intuitive even though I am a first time SATNAV user. I will be downloading camera database/voice warnings asap.
The lack of an ac charger is however regrettable. I do have already a Uniross ac charger which has the correct polarity adaptors and is adjustable to either 3V,4.5V, 5V, 6V, 9v or 12V. I know the TTG needs 5V and 2A current but my ac charger has a current of 0.8A. I do not want to damage the TTG and would be grateful if anyone knows whether 5V at 0.8 A is ok - I am afraid I do not know the correlation between Volts and Amps Confused Confused
