It is believed that NAVTEQ have the most up-to-date and most accurate mapping of the currently available countries however Tele Atlas have recently announced that it has taken the European lead in digital maps shipped into the burgeoning market for personal navigation (PNAV) solutions.

This is debatable as the current portfolio of TA maps are pretty poor in countries such as Portugal and RoI to name two.

As I have never used a system that utilises NAVTEQ data I can't comment on their coverage of those particular countries.

I presently have a Mio 268 which uses Teleatlas and while its been fine for the last few months im noticing quite a few anomolies shall i say in the road data. Ive contacted them about updates and they say they do provide updates but their website is pretty woeful to say the least and no updates can be found. I think i shall be moving to a device with Navteq in the near future. A navigon blue media pna is my prefered choice at the moment, any views on this device ?

There is a review of the Medion MDPNA150 here which is identical hardware (Mitac Mio 138) to the Navigon BlueMedia but differs in the software as it runs a version of Destinator 3 as opposed to Navigon Mobile Navigator on the BlueMedia.

Darren is reviewing the Navigon BlueMedia and it should be available to view very soon.

Please give your choice based on the fact i have a grand to play with on the money front.

You could get the most expensive TomTom GO and still have a nice bit of cash to spare.

As you hinted at swapping to NAVTEQ mapping maybe you should take a look at the Garmin Street Pilot 2620 or 2650 review here

They come with MapSource City Navigator 6 which uses NAVTEQ maps.

I wouldn't go for a 2650 as it needs a cable hardwiring into the vehicle by a Garmin specialist to make use of the dead-reckoning features. The 2610 uses CF cards for storage, the 2620 has a Microdrive. The 2650 and 2660 are their equivalents with dead-reckoning.

Also, CityNavigator V7 is now out, so even if the product is shipped with V6 then a free upgrade to V7 should be forthcoming.
