the power is currently supplied to the existing mini usb socket on the base of the 720, how does the new device connect ...

well, much time has passed, i parked this as i could live with it and couldn't do with following tom tom fault finding procedure back in September. i resurrected this a month ago and have been jumping ...

well i rolled back to 8.1,
no joy with the rds/tmc it times out doesn't find a signal,
I'll go out and drive round a bit see if that helps (although the signal was strong enough at home)

i tried your editing fix,
but my tomtom fails to lock onto a FM signal,
eventually it times out and says something like...
'TMC is unavailable'.

any more suggestions?

well the zip file was missing, so thanks to you the postcode function is working as it was.

next up bluetoo ...

is navigate to postcode missing in 8.3?
is there a definitive list of broken functions in 8.3,
so i can consider reverting to 8.1 or contacting tomtom support.
