It was worth a shot.

My dads pc has a 9 pin serial port but it is male the same as the plug.

might give an adapter a shot.

OK, thats the lead made, seemed pretty straight forward.

Kept the original power connected to the 4 port plug as it powered the Talex up fine. Just put the other two wires as you instructed.

I have tried plugging the lead in without he unit connected. Nothing happens.

I have tried the talex updater and it will not pick up the com port.

Thanks to everyone who offered help.

I fixed it!!!!!!!! yeeeee haaaaaaa!

Found the Tomtom disc and it searched for a full restore file on my PC. It now works. Now backing it up on two PC's Laughing Out Loud

OK, next problem, the card does not app[ear to be big enough to take any more info, the Great Britain map did not copy across.
