Road deaths in Abu Dhabi have fallen by a massive 22 per cent over the first four months of 2018 compared to the same period last year.

The Emirate's police report that there has been an 11 per cent decrease in traffic accidents for the same period and deaths caused by people being run over fell by half. Speed cameras caught over 90,000 drivers over the quarter.

Major General Ali Al Dhaheri of the Abu Dhabi Police commented: "Excessive speed accounted for 84 per cent of traffic violations issued during the monitored period".

199 people died in Abu Dhabi last year as a result of road traffic accidents and 149 were seriously injured.
