Funded by the German government, a new application has been announced to help shoppers navigate their way around large shopping centres and complexes.

The 'shop nav' downloads plans of the shopping centre using the internet, before translating it into a mapped layout of the building. The three-dimensional view is then used to direct shoppers, allowing them to navigate their way around busy complexes.

The system will run as a smartphone application and be accessed by scanning a QR code, utilising a minute navigation chip (which is planned for an official debut later this year) as well as a chip which monitors the speed at which shoppers are walking, as well as calculating the distance they are covering.
