News: SiRF and Intel sign a collaboration deal

pocketgpsworld.com SiRF and Intel have signed a deal signalling closer co-operation between the two companies in future mobile devices. As the GPS technology is reaching the limits of signal acquisition and processing the chipset designers and manufacturers are beginning to reach a plateau as far as performance is concerned.

With stiff competition from MediaTek, Nemerix, U-Blox, etc the manufacturers need to find a new edge in the marketplace. It makes a lot of sense for the leading GPS chipset company to collaborate with the leading CPU manufacturer in a joint venture.

The press release is a little short on specifics, but it is possible that we could be seeing a new Intel chipset with built-in connectivity and GPS functionality in the not too distant future.
