I tried experimenting by creating a route in Route-app (from Tyre to Travel) and then sending it to my Garmin Driveluxe 50 LMT-D. Things didn't go quite to plan as you can see if you view the screenshots I have uploaded. Here's the link:-
https://app.box.com/s/e6i9ipdtu0xapwfjb9gz3qvogba0rzca

Here are the specifics in greater detail, starting with the steps I followed:-

1. Created a short route in MyRoute-app using the HERE/Garmin map.
2. Exported it to my Garmin Driveluxe 50 LMT-D.
3. Checked the initial route (straight lines from waypoint to waypoint).
4. Found the route calculation options under Route Shaping and noted that it was set to "Fastest."
5. Changed the setting to "Direct."
6. Changed the setting back to "Fastest," after which the sat nav informed me it was recalculating.
7. Checked the updated route (see image number 6).

It's interesting because not only is the new Garmin route different to that originally planned in MyRoute-app but it is significantly further in terms of distance (2.88 miles instead of 1.92 miles, which I make to be exactly 50% further) and would therefore take longer to drive, especially as it also includes extra junctions.

One other interesting point (see images 7 & 8) - If the route is planned in Garmin's BaseCamp, using the same version of map as on my sat nav, it initially plans a different route, but if I then add an additional waypoint to force it along the A4440, it plans the route exactly the same as the original MyRoute-app, that is, it doesn't add the additional 50% by diverting along Wainwright Road.

I have referred this back to the developers of MyRoute-app and also intend to forward this information to my contact at Garmin for comment.

Well all this depends on what profile/options were selected in BC and what avoidances were set, both in BaseCamp and on your Drive. Having myTrends and Traffic Trends running would also affect things.

My-Route though appears not to send a route, but just waypoints hence the straight lines initially.
