Apologies folks if this has been covered but I did a search and couldn't see anything.

DriveSmart 50 LMT-D

Can the irritating banner that flashes right to left and back again for trivial matters like 'bend ahead' be disabled?

I see the audible alerts can be nobbled in the menu but the constant wipe left and right I find distracting and in all fairness is not needed on UK roads.

What with my ongoing reflection issues and this banner business I'm beginning to regret the upgrade move from my old 1390.

No, it's there regardless ... as you say you can switch off the warning tone but that's it. Again, to me it's not an issue but I know others have asked for it to be made optional ... if you feel the same you could post here

http://www8.garmin.com/contactUs/ideas/

I have a 1310 but certainly wouldn't return to it, it's extremely basic and doesn't even provide the ability to plan and save trips, but if it's all you need then you might be better off simply returning the Drive.

Isn't that the Garmin Scout that was moaned about a few weeks ago.

I'm sure it only comes into play when the unit is linked to a phone, and can be turned off.

No, things like bend warnings, animal crossings, school crossings don't have anything to do with scout that is a traffic feature via smartphone, which also updates speed cameras

tbh the audio alerts are useless and ideally need to be worded - but i do think the banner regarding bends is a good idea, just shame it doesn't show for every major bend.

the coastal route in scotland has some serious bends and to see this flash up and a reasonable distance was fine.

Thing is, a quick glance at the screen warns you of tight bends, but not about schools and stuff of that ilk.

I don't find the bends warnings particularly helpful (or the animal crossings for that matter) as it often issues warnings when there is only a slight bend in the road and then remains silent before a significant bend. The only audible alert I have left on is the one that warns of a change in the speed limit.

mine also warns of schools and speed limit changes - the bends as @cottonsocks says doesn't always notify you have a major bend - it would be good for it to say 'reduce speed as dangerous/sharp bend(s) ahead' or something similar

No it wouldn't, there is too much chatter from the satnav as it is. If you look out of the window instead of at the satnav, you might just notice tight bend warnings at the side of the road on the ones that are likely to catch you out, let alone the big black and white reflective chevrons. Very Happy
And railway crossings that warn you that you are going to go on a bridge over/under the railway? Well Rolling Eyes

Under Settings, Driver Assistance, Audible Driver Alerts you can choose which alerts you want the audible 'bong' for - e.g. Speed Limit Reduction, Animal Crossing, Schools, Bends etc... so you can have none or all or a combination.

The orange banner seems to be part of the map data and can't be disabled.

With the 'bongs' disabled I don't find them to be too much of a distraction. Only glancing at the Sat Nav occasionally they are fairly rare and certainly on the Motorways and major A roads they don't appear with the exception where some of the speed limits aren't the UK national ones.
