99p post free (how do they do that?) from ebay. Now that MUST be worth a punt. I'll report back.

Why don't sat nav manufacturers use matt/antiglare screens by default to save customers having to faff around looking for other solutions? Perhaps it's the same reason they keep sending us down narrow country lanes or often don't specify road numbers for major roundabout junctions, i.e., they don't actually use the products themselves. Perhaps we should suggest that some of them go out on a trip, fill the car with passengers wearing white clothes on a bright sunny day, plan a route to take in Swindon's magic roundabout and a few other complex major junctions, stay out until its dark and then see what happens when they get directed down some really narrow, country lanes with lots of sharp bends and steep hills on the return trip? Of course, an in-car camera would be mandatory to record the fun, as would posting the video on their web sites. Laughing

Probably for the same reason that the anti-theft code on some older sat navs was removed or that TomTom has removed much of the functionality that users used to enjoy - they just want to wind us up (or else, they are somewhat incompetent).

The Fairy liquid trick sorts those, if prepared properly.

You get free air bubble with all of them unless you fit them in a truly dust free environment. Modern ones will not have air bubbles that you can't squeegee out with a credit card (or similar) unless you get dust under it.
I'm going to try the Fairy liquid application to see if that will eliminate static and its associated dust attraction.

You spray the glass and the sticky side of the film with a weakish solution of water and FL. The film then can slide about on the glass until it's in the right position. You then squeegee out the surplus water.
I'll report back on whether it worked for me or not in a bit when I have tried it.

Good luck with that plan....my piece of 3M film has arrived and it looks grim on the 50. That sexy quality look has gone.

As mentioned above, static attracts dust and whilst I've only got 2 minute specs, they are visible.....along with a good few other small air bubbles. Info claims they'll shrink and disappear overnight......hmmm, we'll see.

The touch screen sensitivity down the left hand side has also suffered.

Looking like £8 down the drain.

On the up-side, the reflections are much reduced, i'll give it a proper test at the weekend but it's not looking good.

Most of the ones I have bought have ended up in the bin for similar reasons, which is why it's especially annoying the manufacturers can't supply items with screens that are ~100% fit for purpose. All the time we are being shown examples of how technology is advancing at an amazing pace, but it doesn't seem to have spread to the world of satellite navigation systems. Even though I'm not an American citizen, I feel a very strong desire to use the (still popular?) H word here and continue with ...k, I would have thought they would have even been able to read our thoughts by now! In a more British way, we might say, "One is not amused." Sad

As a member of various forums that cover Garmin products, including Garmin's own forum, there are very few complaints about screen visibility so it seems the majority of users don't have issues and as I mentioned my screen doesn't cause me any problems. I prefer it over the rather dull screens of old that are on my 1490 and 1310.

Squeezy not a good idea as I was hoping it wouldn't be. No bubbles, no dust, no reflections, no touch screen. Crying or Very sad
At present it's on the hot water pipe trying to dry out the touch screen.
Do not use the wet method of application.
I'll report back on the success, or not of the heat treatment on the screen.

You can buy sun visors on Amazon which do a decent job.
