I am considering purchasing one on these units. Has anyone any experience of using one?

Not that model but I have a DriveSmart 50 LMT-D and am very happy with it.

The LMT-D is the best decision, and, it allows the database from here so a win win.

Have the DriveLuxe 51 and had the DriveLuxe 50 - very little to choose between the two. Are you looking at the 61 due to the screensize? For a similar sum I'd recommend the DriveLuxe 50 (a few Halfords stores still have these in stock) as it has a permanent mount which means you don't need to plug the cable in every time you use the sat nav.

The main difference (apart from Wi-Fi) on the 51 series) is the TripAdvisor category - can't say I've used this so any of the previous years' models are a bargain where you can get them - apart from the DriveSmart series where the 61 has an edge-to-edge display

I've had a 61 LMT-D for a few weeks now.

Very pleased with the screen size, minimal frame width means that overall external size is similar to the 6" TomTom I had previously, despite the Garmin having a near 7" screen.

Very pleased with the screen resolution, clear and bright, probably the best portable I've used.

The high gloss of the screen can result in reflection on ocassions, noticable but not to the point of being a problem.

The voice recognition for voice input to navigation functions works surprsingily well.

The feature that will speak incoming text messages can be useful.

Couldn't find it discounted anywhere so paid the going rate of £250, happy that it was good value.

My Garmin has the glass screen.

I've found that by adjusting the angle so all you can see is the roof lining and no windows works well.

Thanks, must be the angle of my windscreen, I can't seem to find a position that will do that; as I say its not a big problem, just a minor observation I would make to anyone considering one.

Just my luck Sad , Halfrauds have dropped £50 off this model so for anyone looking it is now very attractive at £200.

Could be interested in one of these (61LMT-D @£200), How and where does the power cable join the unit and what type of connector is it.
Is it the standard mini USB that plugs into the back the same as my 2699? YES M8

EDIT. Seen the pics on Halfords and is is as I suspected (hoped)

Yes, power is mini USB direct into unit rear of unit via a 90degree connector, just to the side of the screen mount detach point. (i.e. not into a docking station - as I've seen on some TT's). To be honest I've pretty much given up taking mine off the mount, certainly for security reasons. I've taken it off the mount, but left power connected a couple of times recently but only becasue of the insane temperatures seen in the car standing in the sun.

The screen size and resolution is pretty impressive along with voice functions ... well worth a look. But of course I am biased, I have to justify spending £250 on one ... Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Yeah, it's the screen size that I am impressed with and it's only a few mm bigger than my 2699. What's more important is that HWMBO will never notice the difference. Might just have a 2569LMT-D and a 2699LMT-D for sale soon, Very Happy
I'll have to make yet another 'push on' mount like I have for the other two.

Has it got traffic via the power cable as per my 2699LMT-D or just by smartphone link?

If they did a 6" Driveluxe with the magnetic mount I would be interested. Must be a weight issue.

If you still have the 2699 in Sep I'm interested. I'd need to bring the jamjar to see if it fits. My 2599 only has about 1cm gap between it and the pillar as I have a fixed dash mount.

The back looks the same as my other two with the magmount. See pics HERE

Dims are 67 x 93 x 20mm. Make a cardboard cutout in true Blue Peter style. The distance between the outer edge of the central magmount socket and the edge of the 2699 is 60mm compared with 45mm for the 2569. so taking the centre of the magmount as a reference, it 'sticks out' sideways 15mm more than the 5 inch device.
The drivesmart 61 is about 6mm wider than the 2699 and about 7mm taller. It's the 'wider' bit that will cause me to make up a different 'M8TJT special' mount.

Ta

What I meant by mag mount was one where the cable plugs into the base, not the unit.
