The number of police camera vans have doubled in the North Yorkshire area. The county's police have introduced a further six vehicles to their existing fleet of six.

They will also monitor seat belt offences and motorists who hand hold mobile phones while driving. Additionally, they have automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras that can identify passing criminals.

The vans are smaller in size and therefore able to work in locations that were previously unsuitable for the larger vans. Operatives will have to stand outside of the vans to use the equipment.

The North Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner commented: "The most important thing to me is that they can be much more responsive to local communities and can easily be deployed to where there are 30mph and 40mph limits.

She added: "I get lots of correspondence from people, particularly in rural areas, complaining that speeding and anti-social behaviour on the roads is a real problem within their local area and I think these vans are a really good response to that."

Is there just one "Equipment"? To get speed, seat belts, mobile phones and ANPR for flags? Or does he stand there looking like an intrepid explorer with loadsa gear?

He'll 'look' like rambo hidden in hedges and bushes in the middle of no-where. I'ms sure the cams will spend v little time providing 'confidence' to communities (30 and 40 zones) compared to trolling the A19 and the better B roads... NSL.

I have reviewed the logs on the police website. That's where the money is.... That's where they go.
