I am in the process of buying a new Sat Nav and thinking to buy a Garmin Nuvi, however i was wondering how long Garmin provides map updates? There is an old article back from 2011 with the forums, however i wanted to know if its still relevant. Do Garmin really provide updates for the lifetime of the device or does the device stop working after a couple of years like apple does with its Ipads where the device cannot handle the software updates?

Most Garmin devices going back tens of years still receive map updates so you have little to worry about.

I've only had my Garmin for 4 years and never given it a second thought.

An update of Western Europe is about 2Gb. That's quite large and the time required depends on your connection, but Garmin have it well sorted and I don't recall any problems or need to re-update.

I wonder if the OP is thinking along the lines of as TomTom has 'end of lifed' several of their not so terribly old products, are Garmin going to do the same any time soon?

I just hope Garmin are aware that other manufacturers seem to be dropping POI support and people are moving to Garmin as a result.

Thank you for all the advice.

I was looking at a couple of review of the the Garmin DriveSmart 60 http://www.tomsreviews.co.uk/motoring/garmin-drivesmart-60lmt-d-review/ which comes in both a 6 and 7 inch model however most of the reviews seem to think the 7 inch model is too large for your average car. Has anyone got a 7inch Garmin? is it really too big?

if you have a tablet put that up against windscreen and you will see, 6 inch screens are about the right size
