A village of just over 2,000 people in Ohio have been ordered to pay back speed camera fines of $3million. Nearly 45,000 drivers were ticketed in just 15 months.

Following appeals and disputes involving a class action lawsuit, a judge has ruled that the cameras in New Miami were unconstitutional and constituted "unjust enrichment".

The judge commented: "This court has already found council ordinance 1917, as adopted by the village of New Miami, to be unconstitutional. Accordingly, any collection or retention of the monies collected under the ordinance, was wrongful."

He added: "This action sub justice is not a civil suit for money damages, but rather an action to correct the unjust enrichment of the village of New Miami."

The village is likely to appeal again, but if they lose, they will have ten years to pay the money back.

I'm afraid your crusade in favour of state imposed sanctions for minor technical infringements is not universally supported. This is just an example of fairness being supported - a refreshing change Smile

You can't call anyone that disagrees with you a troll - or is the debate one you are afraid of?

By the way the PGPS database is awesome - it enables me to drive normally a fair bit of the time these days and only worry about misguided state bullying via cameras on certain sections of road.

Combined with years of experience in evaluating prime feeding areas for camera operators and laser detection (yes it does work in some circumstances) I have a clean license and have saved a great deal of travelling time too.

In addition, the new business model that supports SAC's (enforce limits where its safe to speed and not where is actually more risky to carry speed) has freed up many miles of delightful rural A and B roads for more 'sporting' drives. I can actually use the 300 bhp + on tap for more of the time Smile

That's trolling BTW
