Now I have Basecamp installed I may as well try and make use of it. Step 1 must be to download the map because using the one on the connected device was painfully slow to redraw.

I've obtained a silent.vpm so I don't get any directions but will still get the cameras. Still to install that voice pack.

I've plotted a route in BC but it's far from the one I would use so it looks like I can use 'shaping points'.

I can see a command to delete shaping points but not one to create them to force my route to where I want it to go. Must look closer.

The end result is my complete route so the traffic bar shows the traffic from start to end.

Just select the route then press and hold the Alt key then left click ... You can then drag and drop the route where you want. There are other ways but that's the simplest.

That sounds good.

I've been reading about converting waypoints but it sounded long winded.

I'll be on it in the morning.

Certainly not user friendly.

I've done my actual route, then had to go back in and adjust the shaping points to remove the default half hour layover. That needs a default setting box. In my case zero minutes.

Then I renamed it but the 'send to device' used it's own original name.

I set the date to May 21st but on the device it's showing as tomorrow.

Inverted the route, did the same, date also tomorrow.

I give in. Will they still be there in May ?

Not sure what you're doing. Are you using Trip Planner or just creating a route? I've never bothered with Trip Planner as it seems way too complicated for simple route planning.

If you need/want to use it though let me know as there are a couple of ways to get more help with it.

My suggestion though would just be to create routes. I tend to plan two routes when I'm travelling if I'm aiming to stop somewhere specific for lunch, one for pre-lunch and one for after. If I'm just battling on then one will do.

Yes, I used trip planner, see, more user unfriendly as that was the first area that showed itself Very Happy

I'll try and find the route creation section.

I wondered why I had to navigate to trip planner on the device to find it.

Well you'll need to do that for any route you send to your device too. Confusing nomenclature by Garmin Smile

Route planner is in the toolbar, looks like green boxes joined together. Either drag way points into it or close it and then click away on the map.

After a struggle I'm there.

Not easy at all.

Only thing I can't find is a way to keep my routes with shaping but not have them still show on the map.

I thought I was good with software but BC has proved me wrong.

BaseCamp will show on the map everything in the selected folder/list. If you want a blank map create an empty list.

Note as it's a database you can have data in more than one list, or rather a pointer to the data in more than one list. So for example you could have a list containing fuel stops and one containing rest areas. If you then wanted to plot routes for an upcoming holiday you could then create a list for that and drag/drop the appropriate fuel stops and rest areas into it, so you only see on the map the ones relevant to your holiday trips. Easy once you get the hang of it, honest Smile

I'm sure it is.

One small step at a time or I'll need the funny farm.

Rebuilt all my routes.

What caught me out was that not all shaping points are flagged to not inform.

Must remember to check the route before sending to device.

So you can use the Nav to change a point to not inform so it is removed from view ?

I didn't see that option and removing it forces the Nav back to the default route as the shaping point is no longer there.

Yep. Open the trip planner app and the route. Shaping points have an icon that is an orange circle with lines either side, a via point is a flag. Tap either icon and you can change from one to the other.
