Got brand new iPhone 7 and am going to sell the old iPhone 5. My question is how to permanently erase my private data on the phone so the buyer won't get any information from the phone.

Google's first hit is THIS. I have also read that it's a good idea to encrypt it first to make sure that anything that might left on it is encrypted HERE. That's what I did with my Samsung S5 when I bought a new one (different instructions though)

Thanks for the tip. I just want to be sure the data being wiped completely as I saw a post on CNET that factory reset is not that safe.

I think that's why it is suggested that you encrypt it before the factory reset so even if the data can be recovered, it can't be read.
