Very impressed with the traffic info and re-routing tonight. We were turned off the M25 at short notice with stationary traffic just in front of us and re-joined an empty motorway at the next junction. We then learned from the radio that following a car over turning, the motorway was closed for over three hours.

Depending on how soon the incident occured Garmin digital traffic is certainly better than RDS that could have led you straight into the jam.

I agree. We had this last Friday when the A21 was blocked at Pembury. The updating was very good and fast and allowed us to do a U turn before we got into the mess!

Whatever happened to the flying eye planes on the radio?
Instant traffic updates!!

I remember good old "Commander Russ Kane" on London's Capital Radio back in the day Smile

I have been running Waze alongside my Garmin for the last 10,000 miles or so and have noticed that the Garmin is showing better information, earlier. Today's example was for the A1 to be shut and the Garmin to want to route me off at Newark/ Sleaford/ Cranwell. I saw nothing on the matrix and nothing on Waze. Garmin then tried to take me off at every junction until Grantham, when I relented and followed it. Not sure what the problem was, or how long any problem took to clear, but this is the 3rd time now the Garmin has picked up an issue while Waze has left me sat in traffic Rolling Eyes

I get any passengers in the car to use the Map apps in the phone to check on traffic flow and also the UK Roads app which takes a feed from the Traffic England (or whatever the government roads organisation is called) to show what holdups are on the route. - However this does require being able to get a 4G / 3G signal.

There is an App called Highways England which is good for roadworks but not so hot on live congestion and incidents.

I believe Garmin get their live traffic Info via Inrix who are generally very on the ball with incidents on the motorways and major routes but I have complained twice to them over mis-representing well publicised long term road closures.

Motorways and major roads sounds like RDS to me. My 2597 only has RDS traffic.

My 2599 digital traffic frequently, correctly reports issues on minor A roads not covered by traffic cameras.

Yup. I have 2548 LMT-D.

I'm in France at the moment and so far the live traffic has only reported that there is nothing to report!

Interestingly, the Garmin gives an alert of a hazardous section of road, i.e. there is speed camera ahead. They seem to councide with passing the road sign "Pour votre sécurité, contrôle automatique".

Ah, in that case you will be getting any traffic issues as reported by Inrix mobile users. Thumbs Up

My local A312 bypass to Heathrow isn't covered by RDS but Inrix shows it as almost permantly crawling, which it is.

I'm in France too and only hit one delay, around Nantes, correctly identified by my 2508 with digital traffic.

I wish we had a 'Like' button here. Very Happy
PS. I would politely knock on the door first to make sure that no one (or a large German Shepard) were in. Shocked

Don't forget I'm down there in a couple of weeks. I'll pack the crowbar and Winalot.
