Police have caught 147 speeding vehicles in a two hour period on a stretch of road to the north of Norwich. That's one driver a minute.

The mobile cameras also spotted three motorists going through red lights, and one who collided with traffic cones.

They monitored Reepham Road on a reduced 30mph zone - the speed limit was put in place due to construction work for the Northern Distributor Road.

A spokeswoman for the local Speed Watch group commented: "That number of cars speeding is dreadful, I have really got no patience with people who exceed the designated speed limits - they are there for everybody’s safety."

She added: "They are not going to save many minutes on their journey, and they usually find they are just speeding between one set of traffic lights and another."

There needs to be heavier penalties for serious speeding, and they need to be enforced.

A few mph then some discretion needs to be applied but over say 10mph and the full weight kicks in.

The current ones are obviously not working for so many to be caught.

Didn't I read about one idiot caught doing over 150mph and was given a 50 day ban Rolling Eyes

Yes, he got a 56 day ban which is the maximum allowed for a speeding offence.

I don't know if it still applies, but the Dutch classed cars going 50 kph over the limit as dangerous driving and confiscated the car as well as a ban. That's how they got their nice Porsche 911 Targas for their traffic police. Germans used to go blasting across the border on a deregulated Autobahn and not slow down.

If you Google the report, it was the maximum that the court could give. I don't think that he had enough points on his licence for a longer ban.

What is the likely length of an instant ban for a speeding offence?
It can vary from 7 to 56 days in most cases but in extreme case, could be as long as 120 days. The range of penalty points is 3–6 but in certain circumstances, the Court will impose an immediate ban and no points. However, if you already have 6 or more points on your licence and the speed alleged is so high that you would normally face an instant ban, the probability is that the Court will impose 6 points which would make your total 12 or more and you would face a totting up ban of 6 months. I've just read in the local press of a businessman from Barking who was travelling to a meeting on Anglesey and was clocked doing 103 mph in his Range Rover on the A55 near j6. He was allowed to keep his licence because he will have to make weekly visits to a demolition site on the island and because he has to drive his son to horse events.
I drive this part of the A55 quite frequently and I don't fancy having a ton and a half of Rangie bearing down on me at 100 mph+
The fine wasn't even a meaningful one for someone with a business like his.

Ban him so he has to employ a driver for the next year at his expense. Yet again probably a senile magistrate or judge with no links to real life.
