They also need to allow you to specify where the downloaded files should go. My small SSD filled up last year and 60Gb of it's 120Gb was taken up by downloaded Garmin files that don't delete after update.

Where will I find garmin junk I can delete on my win7 machine?

I'm sure it's:

C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\

I can't confirm because I keep mine clear now.

No, that's where stuff like BaseCamp databases are stored, not maps.

How many Gb were they taking up ?

I'll confirm the map location next time they do one, however, they also save the firmware and other updates in the same place so next time I get any update I'll get the bloodhound out.

The biggest Garmin downloads are stored on your PC in the place where Sussamb said in his first post on 12.7.16 ie C:/ProgramData/Garmin/Core Service.

Note that C:/ProgramData is normally a hidden folder. To see it, you may have to press View...Hidden Items (or similar) depending on your operating system.

When I briefly had that DriveAssist last week I updated the maps to 2017.10

Once complete I searched for the saved map, but it hadn't.

I used the trick:

CTRL + F then type 'size:gigantic' into the top right search box and there were no Garmin related files in the list.

I reckon it only saves the downloaded maps if you tell it to for use with Basecamp, which I did once but since turned off.

Hmmm ... that's certainly not my experience, or indeed what Garmin say Confused

Wonder if they've recently made a change to the way Express works?

I know they were there a while ago when my SSD filled up and I deleted them but they aren't there now and that download didn't save them.

That gigantic search only revealed 4 large files and they were nit related. After those 4 the rest were down under 1Mb so outside the limits.

Thought: I can't remember which way round but I do hide either hidden or system files, not both. One of the options reveals loads of desktop.ini files so I turn that one off.
