Latest faux pas (or something that also begins with "f")

Someone with a Start 50 wanted to buy the latest Western Europe map which is clearly shown as being compatible with the Start 50. However, he's now been told that is NOT the case...stay with me on this.
It actually all depends on the first 2 letters of his serial number irrespective of the fact that is IS a Start 50 AND also irrespective of the fact there's an SD card slot for these larger maps!
