I am thinking about buying a larger display (age!) and was wondering whether it is worth going for the Drivesmart 60 LMTD or save quite a bit of cash (£80) and go for the 2699 LMTD.

Are there significant differences which are worthwhile?

I am not fussed about knowing about level crossings etc. as I tend to notice those.

Many thanks

Allan

With the new drive series there are some good discounts on last years models. There is no significant differences between the two models so if it were me I'd get the 2699 ;)

Depends on the size of your vehicle I guess, I'd be pushed to fit a 7" safely in my Focus Very Happy

Having just looked at the size of the thing, I can see your point!

DriveSmarts are faster and if you use things like Up Ahead are quite improved, as is (in my opinion) the colour scheme on the garmin maps etc - much more clear

However SmartLink is broken and Garmin won't admit its traffic service via SmartLink doesn't work dispite lots of photos, facts and more - and multiple unit tests and multiple phone and multiple OS tests

So it depends - I guess then will have to fix SmartLink at some time (or abandon it) - if you intend using SmartLink now for your traffic get an earlier version (and I would say xx98 versions not xx99 which also have SmartLink issues, although not the same ones or to the same extent)

I have 7" versions of the 98 and DriveSmart (returned my 2799) and also 6" and 5" DriveLuxe and really think you should choose the size depending on position in your car - my DriveLuxe is perfect up close on the centre vent - but would be way to small (for me) on windowscreen (which I never like them on)

I thought they had fixed Smartlink because the last time I checked the traffic on my 2597 it did give traffic instead of just obsolete roadworks of previous.

You are right on xx97 and xx98 SmartLink works perfectly - exceptionally well

On xx99 the list layout (on the units) of incidents is a little odd and sometimes muddled - and zoom on incident can be way off (ie. zoomed out to world view level)

On the new DriveSmart it starts off good - with what (seems) to be better coverage than the previous generations - but then just adds random events that are not there - and sometimes removes them! - but its not the app as same app connected to a xx97 or xx98 produces perfect results at same time

Sometimes 2 hours of delays appear on a 1 hour drive - when in reality and on xx98 devices is shows around 5 mins of traffic

Sad really as it is the only thing to spoil a great new series - and I woudn't even mind that but they won't accept it as a fault even though I have sent tens of screen shots from both units taken at the same time, logs, etc.

The traffic in the App remains correct whatever devices are connected

Interesting

I also sent them loads of proof when they first broke it a few years back and their stock reply was to send the unit back Rolling Eyes

I'm quite happy with Inrix now, plus it allows me to use the phone bluetooth to connect to the car hansdfree.

Rolling Eyes Yes one was returned and exchanged but same problem, plus runs across both DriveSmart 70 and DriveLuxe 50 so I assume the whole new range yet they still suggest return and replace?

Money to waste? Lazy? Blind to the truth? I don't know

The HD Traffic is good but I don't get a single from work for around 20 minutes - fine (instant) from home, otherwise I could just forget it. As it is have to run my TomTom along side Laughing Out Loud

I have my satnav in front of the middle vents so its size isn't too much of a factor in terms of taking up space.

There has just been a good review posted on the Halfords site for the DriveAssist.

I know it's just one review but it's quite revealing and put me off. 2 units both locking plus other identical issues.

Needs some firmware updates by the sound of it.
