not enough memory for new map

Hi all,
Trying to help a friend of mine who has the XL classic I believe and has purchased a new map.
While trying to install the map the unit crashes and stops.
It reports not enough memory.
Any ideas on how to install new map.
Not sure if I can just delete old map from device then install new

TTHome will tell you/him what needs doing including opting for a zoned section of the map he's bought/downloaded.

i had the same issues on an XL Live unit. used to easily hold the western europe map within its 2gb memory but the last map update took it just over the 2gb size and the only way round it for me was to download europe west and europe south (which covered the countries i need ie UK and Spain). not ideal as they now are on 2 maps instead of 1.

We see you’re using an ad-blocker. We’re fine with that and won’t stop you visiting the site.
