Hello, all.

Last Sunday, 2 August, there was a major cycling event in SW London and Surrey involving a few thousand cyclists and disrupting millions of residents and would-be visitors, that required the closing of hundreds of roads and left many addresses in the area totally inaccessible. (ridelondon.co.uk)

The road closures and their timing were published months ago, but not one was on TomTom Live Traffic.

My email of protest was sent to TomTom on Tuesday, but, so far, I have not had a reply.

Am I being unreasonable to expect Live Traffic to provide a solution to problems like this?

Can anyone please suggest a TomTom contact that might take my complaint seriously?

BW and thanks for the service you provide.

Philip Boyden

That's my problem with TomTom Traffic - road works and road closures

For actual traffic, its the best, but for road works and closures Garmin HD Traffic out performs it

This is especially true in Wales where TomTom hardly ever report roadworks or closures (sometimes closures appear very late if at all), where as I have not known the Garmin HD traffic to miss any (although sometimes a touch slower with traffic)

I run both side by side regularly

I think it is one aspect of TomTom Traffic that needs to be sorted out - that and more information on diversions, why and how

Thinking about it, there are a great many events throughout the world that require multiple road closures (announced months in advance, so plenty of time to put them into the system).

Marathons must typically close hundreds of roads and the three-week Tour de France cycle race must close tens of thousands.

I haven't yet rung the number suggested, but will report back when I have.

Garmin uses Inrix for its TA cable digital traffic and Inrix has a good Android, and possibly iPhone reporting app, and lots of users, so maybe that's the secret.

The road works / road closures supremacy of Garmins traffic and (now) decent congestion traffic now make a better solution for me than running my TomTom - then if something really problematic looks like its hit the traffic report on the Garmin, I switch on the app on my phone (TomTom Go) and look at their take on it (this takes seconds) and make my decision. My TT 600 therefore more often than not rides in the glove compartment Laughing

Will be interesting to hear TT response when you get time to ask them - they never responded to me when I asked why no (well almost zero) road works / closures get reported via their system in Wales

Not for me it doesn't. Months old roadworks on the M1 covering 5 junctions not mentioned, junction closure M6 J9 not mentioned, junction closure J6 M6 not mentioned, A428 shown as closed when in fact open and no signs of any intended or past work, 2 mile queues on A40 at Oxford due to ongoing roadworks not mentioned. I could go on, but I have lost faith in Inrix Sad

Maybe its time for us all to revert to Sally Traffic. At least she has a sense of humour Laughing
