The controversial average speed cameras on the A9 in Scotland have reduced injuries by more than half according to Transport Scotland’s A9 Safety Group.

However, the number of deaths has remained similar to previous years. Four people lost their lives in 3 separate accidents on the A9 since October 2014 when the cameras were installed, but police say that overtaking or speeding is not necessarily a reason for the fatalities.

Three people were seriously injured during this period, compared with a previous average of ten and 22 were slightly injured, down from an average of about 45.

A spokeswoman for the A9 Safety Group commented: "When compared to the average for the same period between 2011-2013, the number of fatal and serious casualties between Dunblane and Inverness is down by 50 per cent"

A spokesman for Police Scotland said "As these incidents are still being investigated, I am not able to comment on the circumstances other than saying initial findings reveal that excessive speed or overtaking was not a contributory factor."

He added: "Speeding is not the sole reason for crashes and Police Scotland is committed to deploying high-profile road policing officers on the A9 to influence driver behaviour positively and keep people safe."

Then it's not the cameras that had the effect of reducing KSI then.

!I think that the headline has mixed up (alleged) cause and effect - it should be "A9 Casualty Reduction Attributed To Average Speed Cameras" and not as it currently reads

I think there should be a fullstop at the end of your post.

Thank you for an extremely useful, pertinent and relevant contribution to this topic.

Perhaps while you are wearing your "grammar police" hat, you also might want to consider using the term "full stop" (or even "period") rather than the non-existent word "fullstop"?

Kettle calling the pot black and all that ...
