Hi as Windows 10 is due out next week I wondered if anyone has any knowledge of it, i.e. will all the software associated with loading cameras etc to the Garmin units work ok?

All that I've read on forums indicate Windows 10 works fine with Basecamp, Express etc.

I'm hanging fire on 10 until I see concrete proof about the free support length.

The Microsoft phrase is that Win10 updates and upgrades will be free for the 'supported life of the device'. Then reference their roadmap presentation spreadsheet from Jan that shows the home version as being 2 years and pro 4 years as the supported lifetime.

This could mean, according to some, that you may be asked to get your credit card out from Jul 17 for continued patches.

My Win7 is definately covered until 2020 for security patches which is longer than I will keep the PC.

They have stated that you will receive updates until 2025.

I just loaded basecamp onto a Windows 10 system and it seems to work. It only has the base map but everything loads up OK.

I've also seen that 2025 statement which in conjunction with the 2 and 4 year one makes it's support map unclear.

I'm hanging off on my main PC's but I have an old PC that I'm going to upgrade when available to see what happens.

Look carefully at the wording here about the OEM device support wording for Win10 home. Who decides when your machine is out of manufacturers support?

An issue I have noticed is that Chrome no longer supports downloading Garmin Safety Cameras and gives a link to Explorer to do so.

However, this has been replaced by Edge in W10 and Edge doesn't recognise the link. Using Firefox seems to get over the problem.

I understand that Windows 10 has a major update planned for October so it may be worth holding off until then before installing it. Also, unless you have the Pro version, you can't turn off updates which may or may not affect your system adversely.

You can't turn off the updates on any domestic version. Lots of people have already had problems with an update a couple of days ago putting their computers into an update/{fail}/reboot/Restore/update/{Fail}/reboot doom loop cycle that involves registry hacks to get out of.
Guess where I'm not going for a while.

Cardiff ? Very Happy

I heard about that failed update and it just shows how the policy of forced updates is wrong. A 'one size fits all' doesn't work and the interim fix of a registry hack will be well above quite a lot of users I'll bet.

I have also noticed that although Firefox is ok with downloading Garmin Safety Cameras you cannot use Cyberfox which is a variant of Firefox. I normally use Cyberfox and have to remember to go to Firefox when I want an update. A bit irritating.

Hmm... works fine for me.

The link was carried over from IE. Try this in Edge: Garmin Safety Cameras (You will need to login.)

I have just tried to download the cameras using Edge, just as a test.

It firstly told me that I must install Garmin Communicator and then I got a message that Edge no longer supports this plug-in. Perhaps it is a problem with my security settings. Confused

It is not a big concern as Firefox allows me to load the cameras (or did, the last time I tried Very Happy )
