Thanks for that Kremmen. The 2699 is £199 with Maplin so I think Curry's will get my money for that model.

I'm really appreciative for all the responses to my question(s). Thanks all.

Finally (for this thread anyway) picking my Garmin 2699 up from Argos in about an hour. Never thought I would have moved from the other lot but they have let me, and many others down by not fulfilling promises made regarding POI's (not just speed cam ones either). I paid good money for it, based mainly on those promises, but it's going on eBay tomorrow and never will I return to such a customer unfriendly brand. I will lose about £100 on it.

No doubt I will need a hand to set my new unit up so will trawl the forum as much as I can but watch this space for further questions.

I won't start a new thread just yet but in initialising the 2699, it tells me that there are updates including maps. It tells me that "Map Updates are available" but it fails to update saying "There was an error during the update". I've re-tried four times but still not succeeded. The version is 2016.10 and the size of the update is 6.6GB. I have opted to install on the device only. Could it be lack of HD space? I just hope that this isn't a sign of things to come :-(

If you have 2016.10 you're up to date. Or was that the update being offered?

Often over weekends the servers can be busy so try again later.

Thanks for that but it is telling me that it's an update. I just checked the capacity and it tells me that the device storage is already 98% full and that it has just 126.5mb free. I've got a spare 8Gb card that is surplus to requirements so I'll probably put that it later.

Ah that could be the problem, although Express would normally tell you that there isn't sufficient space and ask you to either insert a card or select a smaller map area.

Lots of issues cropping up so hope you can help with this first one. I am using a Mac BTW.

Firstly, I have downloaded Garmin Basecamp and POI loader.

I am trying to download the Speed Cam database as a starting point and have followed the tutorial as far as the point where I press ‘Download’. However, when I do download, all that arrives is the readme file.

Think I've sorted it. I was using Safari on the Mac and remembered there were issues with the old database so used google browser and the files have installed. I think there will be quite a bit of fine-tuning to do but getting there slowly.

I'm finding that capacity issue strange.

My 2599 is on full Eur maps and I haven't needed an SD card for the updates I've taken in.

I did initially need a card on the 2597 for the first 2015.01 map update so I reduced it to UK as that's all I need.

There are quite a few foreign files you can cut and paste, for safety, to a PC/Mac to gain more space, some of them quite large.

Yes, you can delete all the unwanted EULA, Voice, Vehicle, Text and keyboard files for a start.

They are all fairly obvious but to see some your PC/Mac has to be set to show hidden and system files and the nuvi may need to be set to mass storage mode, to enable you to view the otherwise hidden .system folder. To do that:

1. Start NUVI by itself and go to Volume Screen.
2. Press the upper right hand corner of screen for 10 seconds.
3. The Developers Screen will pop up
4. Scroll down to MTP SETTINGS
5. Change from AUTO DETECT to MASS STORAGE
6. Shut down NUVI and connect to PC
7. It should now connect in mass storage mode.

As an alternative to step 1 above, you can bring up the Nuvi's "trip information" screen by tapping the speed icon, then press and hold the speedometer for about 10 seconds to access the developer screen.

With the cost of memory now I don't kniw why they don't increase it from the less than 5% it comes with.

Yes, you could argue that also about phones, cameras etc but I guess even the small saving made across many units generates a useful income Wink

My speed cam download doesn't appear on screen but they were there. My other POI's do and I was able to navigate to a Starbucks this morning.

Did I read somewhere that all POI's should be dowloaded together (Speed and others)?

Finally (for now) what audio format should be chosen, wav or mp3?

Thanks
