I need a new satnav and the nuvi 3598LMT-D catches my eye most.
Been reading up all over about it and noticed in one very large thread a few people complaining it would lock up and they had a grey map, some saying the device was then next to useless and needing reboots I think to get it going.
That thread started in 2013, and most complaints seemed to be 2013/2014.

Does any one with a current unit have these issues?

Or any other issues for that matter.

How reliable is the magnetic mount electrical connectivity?
My now dead TT Go 910 I had some nightmares with intermittent connections in the past, so much so it was really lucky not to literally go out of the window...

I have had one for almost a year.
Good points - good clear screen, easy to use.

Negative points.

I do not like the heavy powerful magnet in the base unit and the display unit.
I may be a bit over reacting but I do not like strong magnets near disc drives, and other electrical kit.

I think close proximity with a Nuvi 775 killed the 775.

The routing tends to provide the shortest route regardless of speed of the road, so a tendency to propose fiddly awkward routes. This could be a firmware /map issue that is affecting all current Garmin systems

I also have a US 2589 LMT which is as good as the 3598 but does not have the magnets.

this is concerning. Is there not a routing option of these to choose between fastest or shortest etc.
Tomtom has this.

My TT always takes me south when I go north, as it heads for the nearest motorway (M50) whereas I head through town and along the A roads to pick up the M5 further north usually, which is shorter. Though the M50 IS quicker.

You can select fastest or shortest. You can also when constructing a trip get the nuvis, at least those from 2013 onwards that have trip planner, to show you up to 3 routes on the map so you can choose.

I had 2 phones wrecked by mounting them on magnets in the car. After the second one was repaired for the second time they asked if I had had the phone near a magnet as the internal damage was suspiciously like it.
As above, electronics and strong magnets don't mix.
