In anticipation of a road trip to the US this summer, I recently took advantage of the offer to upgrade my US map for £6.95. I've not upgraded this since I bought the device many moons ago. I'd previously removed the NA map as the EU map I had had become too large and I hadn't had any need for it.

Given the internal memory is too small for both EU and NA maps to reside, I decided to try running both maps from the class 10 8Gb SDHC card and leave the rest of the file system in the internal memory. I'm sure I'd seen advice here to say this was an acceptable practice.

Anyway, after the device going into constant reboot mode once I'd moved the maps, I rebooted with no SD card in at which point it got to a screen to say connect to home to download maps (all good), however when put the SD card back in I was presented with the same, no maps found message.

Apart from removing the EU maps and copying the US maps to internal memory ahead of my trip, any other suggestions/thoughts on my issue?

Did you just move the maps to the SD card or did you copy the whole of internal memory to the card? As far as I remember, you copy the whole of internal memory to the card, then Home should allow you to download additional maps to it, as there is now space. Home should recognise the card when plugged into the PC, even if it is out of the TT. Or, at least, it does for my 940.

In this instance I have just moved the maps to the SD card and left the rest of the file structure in the internal memory.

In the past when I have had problems I've run it from the SD card and in this case home asks which memory location to update.

I have just started using an 8Gb sdhc card in my 530, having been using a 2Gb sd card until now. I downloaded the 950 map to the sdhc card, but when I tried copying the sdhc content to the computer file, it refused to copy the low battery.bmp and the cline data, at which point I gave up. When I switched back to the sd card it copied without a problem. You can only use sdhc in the x50s, so not much help I'm afraid.

How are you all doing the copying. There was once upon a time when you could not simply copy fro0m internal to SDHC card directly, using Explorer. You had to copy from Internal to PC, then from PC to SDHC card.

hoolahoops in your position I'd personally copy everything to the SDHC card, system and all. Then let the device decide where to keep the maps.

Yes doing: device/Mac/back-up file. After further messing about, find the lowbatteryw.bmp copies from the v945 map back-up file, but will not copy from device to file for v950. Not very bothered have moved to a back-up sd card and not a file on the Mac.
