CN EU 2016.10 is now on the Garmin servers. Hopefully it'll be released faster than last time, which saw over a month between being placed on the servers and release, in the past it's been around a week.

It's failed five times for me so far. It gets to about 40% and then pops up with an unexpected error. Been trying since midday.

Servers are obviously overloaded.

Done

Failed at about 40%, tried again and it seemed to carry on from the failure position.

Just under an hour to get to 50%, end of download stage, then another 25 mins to load the maps.

Wonder why Garmin can only push out 1.7Mbps for a company that size?

I updated both my devices this morning without any failures, about an hour each at the most.

Mine was showing a much faster download ...

Garmin tell me they can push it as fast as is demanded and that any 'throttling' is done by the ISPs.

Strange, I've got a 18Mbps fibre connection that works well for other downloads but Garmin have always been slow.

Only 18 because I'm on an aluminium telephone wire estate. Ally is cheaper than copper and BT were cutting back in the 80's.

THIS IS NOT A JOKE!

I have now been trying for 2 days to download these maps - and at all different times of day. It usually runs for about 20 minutes to half an hour of downloading and then up pops the red banner to tell me it has failed. Restarting does NOT carry on from where it got to and I even have to re-specify that I want the maps on Computer and Device. I appreciate that the servers are probably busy but the absence of download management simply adds to the congestion.

And what is the idea of calling this map (probably based on 2014 data) 2016.10. Magazine publishers hope to sell out of date copies by postdating them by a couple of months but what is Garmin's rationale? Just CRAZY!

Sounds like an issue with your ISP/PC ... is your PC going to sleep during the download or turning off the USB ports?

As far as the numbering goes it's always the way it worked. so 2016.40 will be issued in the last quarter of the 2015/16 'year', much like the 2015/2016 tax year ends in Apr 16. 2016.10 is the first update in that 'year'.

No it was not my ISP or my PC.
I suspect that it may have been that the update which was installed just prior to the map did not automatically reset the Garmin. I tried again yesterday evening and the garmin did not want to connect to the PC. I then restarted the 2598 whereupon it told me it needed to reboot to install the software update. After it had done that it downloaded OK but then failed again when transferring the maps to the device. This morning I tried again and it took about 45 minutes to install the maps successfully.

As far as map naming is concerned I agree that is how it has always been EXCEPT that I am sure that the month of the xxxx.10 map has crept forward.

And what the hell has the tax year got to do with it? That is a dubious attempt at justification of what appears to be just a marketing deception.

Failing transferring the maps to the device (after download) does make me think the USB port is going to sleep.

After I installed Win7 late last year, on a new PC, checking the USB sleep settings was on my list and sure enough every one was set to allow the PC to put the port to sleep.
