Hi, thanks to the information supplied in this thread and the previous one I have successfully loaded the Safety Camera db onto my Mercedes (W205) Map Pilot.

However, I do not get any voice warnings, only the 'chime'. I have downloaded 'MP3 Female with chime prefix' - but no voice occurs. I thought maybe I needed the WAV format, but Garmin POI loader says it doesn't like the WAV files.

What am I doing wrong and can I confirm that others are actually getting the voice alerts and not just chime warnings?

Many thanks.

I assume that it's a Garmin device, as you have posted in the Garmin section.
Does your device support MP3 audio? If not, you need the .WAV files and SOX.EXE in the poi loader folder. (Well, I think that's how you do it.)

Spot on.

Why Garmin can't do this without relying on an old third party program beats me.

Well of course Garmin's own speed cameras work without issue. Hardly any incentive for them to make it easy for 3rd party websites ... could be worse, you could own a TT that doesn't even accept 3rd party POIs Twisted Evil

Strange decision by TT to abandon the ogg facility. Must have cost them sales.

Next coup for Garmin would be to develop a single unit with a dashcam and SatNav combined.
Single power lead and just one unit to remove when parked.

All pigs fed and ready to fly.

Dear M8TJT,

Thanks for your response. This is my first post and I may be in the wrong section!! But, to answer your question and provide more details; I am referring to the Garmin Map Pilot product supplied on an SD card with my new Mercedes (w205) C Class.

I followed the instructions given by other posters and successfully installed the Safety Camera Db via Gamin POI loader. The file selected from PocketGPSWorrld was 'MP3 Female with Chime Prefix'. As I didn't get any voice alerts I tried loading 'WAV Female with Chime Prefix', but POI Loader said it could not load the WAV files.

I do not know if the device supports MP3. When I look into the folders on the SD card I cannot see any MP3 files. In the VOICE folder the files are all .vpm.

I don't know what SOX.exe is, nor where I can get it.

Any further advice greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Help. We need a real Garmin expert here. Embarassed
But what I do know is that you need SOX.EXE in the POILoader folder on your PC. It converts the .wav files into something recognised by Garmin.
Why isn't there a link to the correct version of SOX.EXE in the installation guide. It's a buger to find.

Yes

Search here and get the older version of SOX.EXE that is referenced in a few posts.

Once you've got it it goes into the same (/program files/) folder where POILoader.EXE has installed itself.

Use the .WAV files as I know POILoader is compatible with them.

The above should overcome the wav files not processed error that is produced when POILoader can't fine SOX or SOX can't find the WAV files.

Found one after a hell of a lot of looking. Thanks to Andy_P who actually gave the link rather than just saying' You need the old version' like most everywhere else. As I don't have a Garmin, I was not that interested, but the question has been asked so many times that I just happen to know the answer.

From Andy_P's post
SOX.exe 'working version': http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/downloads/sox.zip

and There's a step by step guide here

Good luck Keith

Ta Smile

If I'd been on my PC I would have searched but trying to do links on a tablet is impossible.

Thanks to Kremmen for the guidance and M8TJT for sussing out the SOX.exe.

I've followed the instructions and the POI Loader didn't fail this time with the WAV files, so I'm hopeful it's worked.

Once I've tested it I'll get back on here to let you know if it worked.

Okay, tried it again following the update on same Gatso where I had chimes only. This time I didn't get any audio alerts, either voice or chime. ( I had selected chime with female voice during Safety Camera download).

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

One thing to note was that this time I was going slow on approach to the camera due to heavy traffic. I'm wondering whether the alerts are triggered if MPH exceeds speed limit?

Thanks.

You may very well have been caught by this. It's often been posted that Garmin will often make a decision not to produce a warning if it deems you are well under the speed limit and not accelerating.

Not wishing to promote my CSV Converter (honest) but you can force the Garmin to report all cameras regardless of your speed by using a specific character in a GPX format file instead of CSV.

Kremmen,

Thanks.

That looks just the job. I'll download and try over the next few days.

(I used to program in Cobol many moons ago.
