Hello

I have a Garmin Nuvi 255W (about 6 years old) and a couple of days ago it gave up speaking to me! It gives me the normal test directions.

I have done the following:

Checked that it is not on 'mute' and the volume is set to 100%.
Tried a different language
Done a factory reset
Downloaded and installed the latest updates
Used the 'secret' screens to do an audio test
Checked that the language files are actually installed on the device

All to no avail I'm afraid!

Is there anything else I can try?

I have some very clear instructions how to replace the speaker but 1) I don't have a spare and 2) I don't have the required T5 Torx screwdriver!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

KH

Do you get any sounds at all? if not it does seem, given what you say you've done, that the speaker has failed.

Hello

No, nothing, zilch, not even a squeak or a bit of hiss! Sad

Where would I get a speaker from? If it was cheap enough it may be worth trying, even if I b******d up the unit, as I would need to get a new Sat Nav in any case.

Thanks

Checked on ebay and found this http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Original-Garmin-Nuvi-200w-205w-255w-265w-465w-760-770-765-Speaker-/261423474316?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3cde0da68c.

The touchscreen on my Nuvi 760 gave up recently and I bought a replacement on ebay. I then approached a local mobile phone shop and the owner put me in touch with a man who does repairs for him. He had the correct screw drivers and tools for prising open case without damage.

You might try something similar. Smile
